No Excuse, Stop Abuse

October 1st, kicked off the start of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Around the world Businesses, Universities, Non-profit Organizations, Churches, and Local Communities are sponsoring walks and workshops to raise awareness about Domestic Violence. Domestic Abuse has taken loved ones from us far too soon. Raising awareness about the signs of domestic abuse and what can be done to help women is the main focus. Domestic Violence has to be STOPPED. We all need to stop looking at the situation like it is none of our business and help other’s that are in these dilemmas, we should not be so quick to judge. Just think about it, it could be your mother, aunt, daughter, granddaughter, cousin, goddaughter, niece, grandmother, and/or YOU. Yes, even our grandmothers are victims of domestic violence. We need to listen to their silent cries for help. Abusers need to know that Domestic Abuse will no longer be tolerated nor accepted. Domestic Violence has ruined or prematurely taken too many lives of women around the world and we need to SPEAK UP and SPEAK OUT that we will no longer stand for DOMESTIC ABUSE. We need to be a VOICE for the victim. It is up to us to use our VOICE and RESOURCES to help victims who are silently suffering from abuse.

SPEAK UP AND SPEAK OUT, WE WILL NO LONGER TOLERATE NOR EXCEPT DOMESTIC ABUSE

She's Legal-21

A DEDICATION TO MY 21 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER

Since I have embarked on my new spiritual journey, it has given me a lot to think about. One of the things that have weighed heavenly on my mind is being able to change the way I raised my daughter and the fact that I could have shared more hugs with her. Today, I am happy to say that as I continue to evolve as a person I am more conscious of my actions towards her. As the old saying goes “You know better, you do better.”

Meditation Reflection

On August 5, 2013, people around the world including myself joined Oprah & Deepak for a 21-day meditation journey. The 21-day challenge was geared towards Miraculous Relationships. This is my second 21-day challenge that I have participated in with the duo. The first encounter, I experienced was interesting because I did not know what to expect. In the beginning, when I decided to embark on this journey I was clueless. My mind would wonder off and I could not focus because of activity around me. During the process nothing was clear so I did not gain much from my first encounter.

When I received the email months ago about the upcoming challenge I wanted to see if I could take on the challenge for its entirety. In addition, I wanted to see how far I have come on my own and if I would have a different outcome than my previous encounter. I was curious to see if I had finally cleared out the distractions in my mind.

The Shift

Several weeks ago I had the opportunity to watch “The Shift” by Wayne Dyer at The Red Shoes. The Red Shoes is a center for Personal and Spiritual Growth in the Baton Rouge area. I stumbled upon The Red Shoes about two years ago when I first began my journey with meditation and spiritual growth. Every so often, I attend their weekly class meditation. The experience has been very rewarding in helping me connect to my inner self. The center is a non-profit organization that offers a variety of weekly classes from yoga & meditation, creative arts, mind-body wellness, spirituality workshops, book & film studies, and sacred circles.  Visit www.theredshoes.org for more information.

My Guardian Angel

Mabel
My 1st post is dedicated to my grandmother Mabel Turnbull. I first inherited this plant on June 5, 2006, when we laid my grandmother to rest. First of all, let me give a disclaimer I do not have a green thumb. This plant I named Mabel and I have been through the storm. She's been transferred from pot to pot through the years but to no avail the tips would turn brown and die. The stems would turn yellow and become flimsy. She's barely been hanging on. Through the years, she's been in and outside of the house.  From sunlight to shade nothing seemed to work. I would often say Mabel you're a stubborn old thing, why are you not growing right. As long as Mabel didn't answer me back I was fine and as long as I didn't answer myself, that was even better. What's the saying, you can talk to yourself but as long as you don't answer yourself you are good. Well, let's just say I was alright, HA! Sometimes I was on the verge. I'm just keeping it real.  I would talk to Mabel when I was down and going through some stressful times in my life. I truly believe because I wasn't in a place of peace Mabel was reflecting that. It may sound crazy, but in my heart I truly believe this. For several years, I had been having ups and downs in my life with a particular situation. Today, I'm at a better place in my life, I'm at peace, I'm FREE and look above, so is Mabel. This is the most she's BLOSSOMED in 7 years, the same amount of time that I was stressed...When I noticed the other day that she was growing, I was completely shocked and totally convinced, that when I wasn't at peace, she wasn't either. A lot of times our moods or stress is projected into our enviroment. I was amazed to see the growth in Mabel as I grew... Mabel and I will continue to BLOSSOM together in the years to come!
