God
delights to increase the faith of His children. We begin by faith, we live by
faith and we grow by faith. ~ Anonymous
Last week, I had the opportunity to spend my lunch hour around
women of faith. The title of the gathering was called “Women In Spirit.” It was held
at St Joseph’s Cathedral Parish Hall. The church is right around the
corner from my job which made for a nice refreshing walk.
Women
in Spirit is a monthly gathering for women who are seeking
spiritual growth. The objective of the meeting is to get away from the stresses
of home or the office. It was definitely a boost for me to get me through the rest
of the evening. Sponsored by St. Joseph’s Cathedral it is an opportunity to
network with likeminded women of faith.
For me, it was a chance to feed off of other women of faith. You know there are times when we experience
things in our lives and it doesn’t seem like we are catching a break, we can
become weary. This gathering allowed me
the opportunity to be filled in my mind, body, and spirit. Just being in the
presence of a bunch of women of faith gave me renewed hope. Just what the doctor
ordered.
This month’s guest speaker’s name was Kathryn Grigsby and she
was phenomenal.
She’s a retired CEO from The Hospice of Baton Rouge.
Mrs. Grisby’s topic of discussion was “My Mother: Plan B, 1988.”
In that message she talked about being a woman of faith and how her faith has
guided her throughout her life. In her role as the CEO with the Hospice of
Baton Rouge, she met with families for a Plan B, meaning finding an alternative
solution to suffering.
She states that most people look at hospice as a means of the
last days of one’s life, when in fact that is not always the case. Mrs. Grisby
informed us that some people live on hospice for a long time. Her message more or
less was for us to not look at hospice in that manner. Her statement to us was that
hospice is a solution to help our loved ones live a more comfortable life as
opposed to suffering.
There were women from the audience that chimed in on the
discussion speaking about their experience with hospice and agreed. For others that
have never had to experience hospice it gave them a better understanding of how
hospice work.
She also discussed about having a living will. Whereas, our
loved ones wouldn’t have to guess what we would like or vice versa. In that
way, we are not guessing, whether or not our loved ones, would like to be kept
alive by a machine or not. We never know
what we will experience in our lifetime, so to be filled with the knowledge of
how to care for our loved ones in case we are ever in a situation such is this
is important. I would think for most of us we would want what is best.
Being that I was on my lunch break I couldn’t stay for the
entire gathering but just being there for an hour gave me what I had come for. Renewed
faith.
Women
in Spirit takes a break during the summer months but
reconvene in August. When I initially signed up to attend, I didn’t realize it
was something that was held monthly. Now that I know, I will definitely add the
upcoming dates to my calendar.
With that said, if you are in the surrounding area, if you
are visiting Baton Rouge during the fall months or if you live here and interested
in learning more about “Women in Spirit” gatherings you can go to their website
here to find out more information.
