Awesome Year; Thanks for Your Support

Thank you! Gracias! Merci!

As this year comes to a close, I want to say thank you to all of my family, friends, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram family for all of the support you have shown me. When I first embarked on this journey of consistently posting once a week, I initially had reservations. This blogging journey was new to me so therefore, I did not know if I would have enough topics to discuss. Little did I realize, my life had many learning experiences to share.

4 Things to Be Mindful of As We Approach 2016

Planning is bringing the future into the present so that you can do something about it now. ~ Alan Lakein

So, here we are, only one week and two days until we officially cross over into a new year! I must say the last six months have been a total blur. It seems everything has been happening in a whirlwind manner and I’m trying to keep up to make sure I don’t get lost in the shuffle.

I Love To Be in Competition with Myself, not Against YOU

Competition, Healthy, Strengths, Skills, Competitive Spirit

I’m not in competition with anybody but myself. My goal is to beat my last performance ~ Celine Dion

This is a title that is all too common! Many people in life believe everything is a competition when in fact, it should never be about competing against others. It should always be about making ourselves better. If we are going to compete, it should be about competing against who we once were. In my opinion, when we set ourselves up to compete against others we are sometimes setting ourselves up for a disaster.

We Should All Be Happy for These 3 Reasons

Determination, Dream, Happiness, Happy, Life
Happiness is always a choice. You can’t wait for circumstances to get better. You have to create your own fortune. So look for ways to be happy every day. Joel Osteen

Being happy in life should be a top priority in our lives. Life is meant to be enjoyed and lived to the fullest. Learning to live your life regardless of the ups and downs you experience should be what your happiness is based on.

Sometimes just a little compliment can makes someone’s entire day. ~ Anonymous
There’s nothing like passing by someone and offering a kind word. Whether it’s a compliment on their appearance, such as clothing attire, shoe game, hair, nails or something else that caught your attention, sharing with them that you admire something about them or on them goes a long way.

3 Reasons You Should Be the Best You Can Be in Life

Challenges, Change, Family, Life, Personal Development, Personal Growth

You owe it to yourself to be the best you can possibly be. ~ Anonymous
Living to be the best you can be in life every day is challenging. Every day we are challenged about something and every day we have a choice to make on how we handle it. Truth be told, we blame our actions on other people’s behavior, when in fact we have control over how we react to things. It’s not always easy to respond to life occurrences the way God wants us to.

3 Reasons You Should Consider Blogging

Journal, Writing, Diary,Blogging, Blog, Blogger, Therapy

Doing well with blogging is not about writing one key post, it is about performing day after day and helping a few people at a time. ~ Aaron Wall

If you would have asked me years ago if I would have ever considered blogging, my answer would have been, NO. Growing up, I wasn’t the one to journal or write down my thoughts. I’m assuming it wasn’t something that interested me, so therefore I didn’t partake in having a diary. Some of my friends used journaling or writing in their diary as a means to express them feelings. It was their outlet to surviving in a world where like today we weren’t allowed to voice our opinion. What opinion? We were taught you don’t have an opinion, wait, you might have had one, but you better not voice it.

3 Reasons You Should Let Go of Drama in Your Life

Calmness, Drama, Change, Peace, Stress, Health

Be free of the complexities of drama. Be free of those who live it and those who share it. You’ve been around long enough to see it can never be helpful; cut it away. ~ Steve Maraboli

Everyone has had to deal with drama at some point in their lives. Drama presents itself in various ways and comes in many different forms. Be it family, work, friendship, husband, wife, baby mama or baby daddy drama one can always say I’ve been there and done that.

De-cluttering your life means getting rid of the unnecessary to leave time for the necessary. ~ Lindon and Sherry Gareis

Is your life full of clutter?

When I speak of clutter, I’m speaking of mind and home clutter. When our lives are full of clutter we sometimes miss our blessings because we have so much going on and we cannot recognize when our blessings have arrived.

Finding Clarity in Life When You Don’t Know What to Do

clarity, life, focus, personal development, emotions

It’s a lack of clarity that creates chaos and frustration. Those emotions are poison to any living goal. ~ Steve Maraboli
When things in life seem unclear, that’s a sign you need to sit still for direction. Daily life occurrences can knock you off track and have you turned around. There’s always something going on and something to do, so we lose focus of what’s important in the midst of things. When this happens it seems as if your world has fallen part.  While this may not always be the case, most time it is proven to be true.

It’s a Community Effort to Put an End to Domestic Violence

Domestic Violence, Abuse, LSU, Action, Awareness, Resources, October

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about the things that matter MLK, Jr.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  A month that we solely raise awareness and shed light about domestic abuse. According to the National Coalition against Domestic Violence, on average, nearly 20 people per minute are victims of physical violence by an intimate partner in the United States. During one year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men. 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have experience some form of physical violence by an intimate partner within their lifetime. These numbers are extremely alarming, so with that being said our fight against Domestic Violence continues. It is our goal to one day be able to say Domestic Violence is no longer an issue in the world.

Take a Risk Today and Change Your Life

Risk, Challenge, Change, Personal Development, Risk-Taker, Confidence

The most rewarding things you do in life are often the ones that look like they cannot be done.  ~ Arnold Palmer
Life is a gamble. Sometimes you have to let the chips fall where they may. You know the old saying “roll the dice and see what happens.” Being scared to take risk is a sure way of not progressing in life. One thing I know for sure is life waits for no one. Life is steadily evolving. Either you are on board or you are not. The choice is yours.

3 Ways to Adapt to Change

Some change look negative on the surface, but you will soon realize that space is being created in your life for something new to emerge. ~
Echart Tolle

Since the birth of my grand-daughter, I’ve had to make some major adjustments in my life and change my mind set. Before her birth a week and a half ago, my evening consisted of going workout, two or three times a week and coming home to take a bath and relax. There were some days that I would have had my bath twenty minutes after coming directly home from work. Yes, by 4:30, I would have had my bath. If I didn’t go work out, I was going to bed early. I truly believe in getting my rest. So, every time I had the opportunity to get in my bed early, I took advantage of it.

If you live your life as if everything is about you…YOU will be left with just that, YOU. ~ Anonymous

Have you ever wondered why things are never going in the right direction for you?

Does it seem like you can never get ahead?
If you’ve been asking yourself these questions lately, it could be because you are only focused on yourself. Life is not always about the things we want and/or desire. We have to sometimes think about others and how we can enrich other people’s lives.

Lately, because of my Lupus I’ve been experiencing migraines like never before. Most of the time the migraine is consistent and all I want to do is get in my bed. This puts me in an even more “blah” mood. Sitting at work has become a task but I continue to press on.

My family’s response was “who does that, you have nothing else to do was said.” Half of the time that is true, that’s why I come up with all sorts of ideas, (crazy as they may be) and act on them.

Every now and then we become complacent at where we are in life. We want more but do not want to step out of a familiar place. We dream of that ideal job or a goal we’d like to achieve but don’t want to do what it takes to make it happen. It’s like we can just taste it but we are apprehensive if it will work. Because we are human we second guess ourselves.

Peace: It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work; it means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart ~ verybestquotes.com

How important is peace in your life?
Have you ever thought about this question?
More importantly, do you have peace in your life?
Having peace in my life is extremely important to me. It’s something I need in my day to day life. 4 Reasons A Day Of Reflection Is Needed

Acknowledge, Reflection, Humble, Appreciation, Grateful, Life, Thankful

No matter how good or bad you think your life is, wake up each day and be thankful… Someone somewhere else is fighting to survive. ~ Anonymous
A day of reflection is a time when we count our blessings for everything that has happened in our lives. It’s a time we look and say thank you Jesus I made it through. Many times, we zoom through life without giving thanks like we should. We get caught up with our day to day activities and for no obvious reason saying thank you ends up on the back burner. When in fact, it should be the first thing we say when we wake up.

My Love/Hate Relationship With Springtime

Springtime, Season, Spring, Birds, Fitness, Lunch, Walking

Spring is the season for rebirth, renewal, and regrowth  ~ Anonymous

It’s that time of year again. Springtime has arrived and those same types of feelings have emerged all over again. It’s that feeling of hating to be inside when I love to be outside.

I was talking to someone the other day at work while we were waiting on the elevators. I could tell he was just returning from lunch. So, I asked him did he take a walk during lunch. He stated, he did and then said he had a love/hate relationship with springtime. It was in that instance, that I knew how he felt, and I could definitely relate to that relationship.

3 Reasons You Should Talk Less and Pray More

Prayer, Growth, Challenges, Life

“I will lift up my eyes unto the hill, from whence cometh my help.” Psalm 121:1
When we are going through things the first thing we do is pick up the phone to call someone to share our story, vent or complain. It’s been the norm for so long in our lives, so it’s an automatic reaction to do so. What else is there to do, right? I believe we can all relate to doing this. I know I’m guilty of the same thing. Yes, I pray but it is so easy and much quicker to just pick up the phone. I want someone to hear my thoughts and I want their opinion as well.

7 Reasons "Closure Is Important For Your Life"

Closure, Relationships, Healing, Friendships, Personal Development, Amends, Apologize

“Nothing changes until people decide to do the things they must in order to bring about peace.” Shannon Adler

Is there something from your past that’s keeping you from moving forward?

Do you need to make amends with someone to bring closure for a more peaceful life? Or, is there someone wanting to make amends to you for closure and you have not given them the opportunity?

I received an email the other day from an old boyfriend needing closure to his past.  He wanted to make amends for all the wrongdoings that were done in our relationship. I figured I was cordial when we saw each other and we spoke, may be a laugh or so, so what was the big deal, right? I guess you can see closure, is not that big of a deal to me.

Perfecting "MY GIFT"
And isn’t part of your life doing something with the gifts God has given you?
Lisa Tawn Bergren

As I’m typing this post I can hear Donald Lawrence’s voice in my head singing “The Gift Looks Good on You, It Looks Good on You, The Gift Looks Good on You, It Looks Good.”  It’s a repeated lyric that’s been playing in my mind continuously when I talk to people that have a gift but haven’t taken the time to perfect it.

Some people’s gifts and talents come naturally and they expand their knowledge by perfecting it. Whether a class is taken or a mentor or coach is hired that person knows that in order to be the best at their gift, steps have to be taken to craft if perfectly.

Finding Fulfillment in Your 40's

“Your Life Should Be About Finding the Intersection of The World’s Greatest Need and Your Greatest Passion.” Darren Schwindaman

So here we are in our 40’s, now what?

Have you had these thoughts?

I don’t know what I expected life to be about when I turned 40 and honestly, I don’t think I gave it much thought. It was not until I had my a-ha moment a couple of years ago that I realized a void in my life. I felt empty. I was not content. It was a feeling that was unexplainable. I knew there was something missing in my life and I was on a mission to find out exactly what it was. I needed a solution to bring my life into full completion.

How Can We Expect A Man To Love Us, When We Don’t Love Ourselves?

“Find yourself FIRST…like yourself FIRST…love yourself FIRST… & friendship & love will naturally find YOU.”
Mandy Hale

Interesting title we have here.

Have you ever asked yourself this question?

Lately, this has been a topic among women at work, my circle of friends and oddly enough, strangers. The way I see it, until we learn to love ourselves, a man cannot truly love us in the fashion we want to be loved.

Yes, he could love us, but really, would it be the way we want to be loved? Or, would it be his twisted up way of love? I don’t know about you but I want to be loved in a fashion that’s true, genuine, and above all else, Godly.

When Settling Is Not An Option Anymore

Have you ever waken up and had a new perspective on life?

It’s like an A-ha Moment that occurs, giving you new insight to your life.
I’m sure there’s someone out there that can relate to what I’m talking about. It’s like a light bulb that goes off in your mind and depending on what’s going on  in your life, that light bulb radar is telling you that settling in a relationship is not an option anymore or it’s time I take this leap of faith and go for it.

Not too long ago, a friend and I were having lunch and she mentioned she had an epiphany. I’m sure she’s going to talk about me when she reads this, but as she was talking I zoned in because it sounded like it was about to get real interesting.

4 "Selfies" To Loving YOU

When I look at some of today’s young adults I see a lot of self-hatred.  To be honest, I will just put it out there; I will say there are mature adults as well that have these feelings. When I speak of self-hatred I’m speaking of low self-esteem, no ambition, no self- love, and not feeling worthy of having someone to love you.

All of these traits open the door to negativity towards an individual. It allows a person to take advantage of you, talk to you any kind of way, as well as talk about you right in your face with no regard for how you feel.
When I think about the “Art of Self” I look at the uniqueness of loving thy self. I see all of what life has to offer in loving yourself. Now don’t get me wrong. It has not always been this way.  There was a point in time in my life that I exhibited some of these same feelings.
